Watchmen maybe never comes to a theatre near you?

Watchmen maybe never come to a theatre near you?

CrackerBob’s For The Love of Comics blog talked recently about the whole Fox vs Warner Bros. issues over the Watchmen. Seems Fox thinks that they have rights that WB never bought way back when man wrote on cave walls and now feel that they can stop the movie from ever being released or so they say. I am betting once the WB bucks up and lets FOX in on the action, the Watchmen will be in full glory and pimped out even more than WB is doing right now.

NOW the big news is that Watchmen movie fans (and yes, I am making a distinction) are talking about making a petition and going to Boycott FOX until this is settled. Wow. I guess some people have a great deal of time on their hands to put this much effort into this. I, for one, will NOT be boycotting FOX and any other companies unless it benefits ME in some way (and sorry a movie just doesn’t do it for me!). I am going to enjoy watching Fringe and knowing that hundreds of Watchmen movie fans are not! :P

I know it seems as thought I am not really doing much comic-book news reporting but I will be. I am still struggling with the fact that I am back home plus going through the 3 weeks of comics I bought plus this week’s. I am working on the Best Bang for this weekend as well!

So while I am doing all that, here is a great snippet from the Watchmen panel from SDCC this year. I loved this ’cause I was there watching all this (not as close as the video) so I thought I would share. I do love seeing Zak Snyder say “That’s a good question, Batman!” with that look and then smirk.

That Batman cosplay attendee was EVERWHERE during Comic-Con this year. I saw him in almost every panel I was in!

My Comic-Con moment!

My Comic-Con moment! Meeting Grant Morrison!

Thank-you Grant Morrison for this moment!

Okay so after going to see the Watchmen panel (It was so-so, nothing special and Zak Snyder is obviously nervous on the panels) and you can read more about that and the new “exclusive trailer” here:
http://comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=17402

I then hooked up with Ethan (and his bro) from Elfsar Comics & Toys and then rushed over to make the DC Batman panel.

The panel was okay with some great one liners from Grant Morrison & Paul Dini. You can read more about it here:
http://www.newsarama.com/comics/080725-comic-con-Batman-panel.html

So after the panel, I waited and got the chance to get a photo with Grant Morrison. We then went for lunch and came back to the SOLD OUT line-up for the Venture Bros. panel (yeah, I was like WHAT-THE-F*******CK! as well) so we rushed over to the big “H” room (more like a small stadium) for the Entertainment Weekly Visionary series panel with Kevin Smith, Judd Apatow, Zak Snyder and Frank Miller. This was a GREAT panel with Kevin and Judd having great one liners with one another, Zak had some good lines and Frank just kept drinking and ignoring the questions. It was a comedy show and it was a ton of fun but hey — not for any kids ’cause these people swore like a… well you know what I mean! After this panel and catching my breathe from laughing so hard, we went to the Con floor for a bit until we got ushered out (Con ends at 7pm) to which we parted ways, I headed over to the end of the Kevin Smith panel which was just more swearing and laughing. I then took off early before the end to catch my ride back, of course with my luck, I caught my foot on something on the Con road and now have a major bruise on my foot. Right Day Two is over.

So I missed the DC Final Crisis panel which sounds like it was a good time here:

I also missed out on the Eisner Awards tonight but I needed dinner and to get away from the Con. Day 2 photos will go up tomorrow (I need sleep!) - William S. I missed the Venture Bros. but I did a shot of The Monarch & Trixie!

RANT: Watchmen trailer hits the ‘net and BtS ain’t impressed!

July 17th, 2008 rjp Posted in Comic Books, DC Comics, Rants, Television / Movies, Watchmen 22 Comments »

Watchmen trailer hits the ‘net!

Heads up to Hartley who sent me an early email that the Watchmen trailer for leaked but I think soon after it did, the trailer went up all official on the Apple site here:
http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/watchmen/

As much as I enjoyed seeing the Owlship come out of the waters in front of downtown Vancouver (then CGI into New York is it?), I couldn’t care for what I saw and it really made me realize that I never wanted to see this comic book series (f***k GRAPHIC NOVEL, I know and understand that it got MUCH more popular via the graphic novel version but that doesn’t mean it EVER WAS ONE TO BEGIN WITH YOU IGNORANT F***KS DC COMICS! Ah hem…) as a movie. It would be like someone making my favorite childhood memory into a movie, it just won’t happen. I was not a fan of the new costumes and I still ain’t. Rorschach (aka The Question), looks far too CLEAN for my likings plus if that is the voice for Rorschach — how LAME, why another Batman/Christan Bale ripe-off (?), Night Owl (aka Blue Beetle) looks like Batman with Hawkman’s headpiece and in shape (WTF!?!?! — Anyone READ the WATCHMEN while making the movie?!), Ozymandias just looks BORING in black & greys plus what he’s all of 16 yrs old (and I mean BORING — like I would prefer the plastic ears of the 80’s Captain America costume compared to that sh*t), Silk Spectre looks frightfully like they really wish they cast ANYONE else, The Comedian (aka Peacemaker) looks like he’s still the only one having fun for the 2 mins he’s in the movie and Jar Jar… I mean Dr. Manhattan (aka Captain Atom) is yet another CGI character in a movie. *YAWN*

Seriously, is anyone excited about this movie? I sure ain’t, I know I will go see it just to be sure how bored I will be but I ain’t excited to see this movie, the trailer or the f***king action figures at SDCC this year at all. Nope.

Now make me The Question movie and I am all over it! Better yet, Ambush Bug!

Oh and here is one other thing that bugs that sh**t outta me while watching this trailer? Why are they not talking about the story itself? Why are not selling the line “Who watches the Watchmen?“. Why tell me, the viewer,  how f***king popular that graphic novel was / is or will be. F***k if I care, tell me about the movie yeah Yahoos! DC gets a FAIL on this marketing attempt!
