I have mentioned this numerous times, I find that Warren Ellis is very hit and miss with me. I wonder why he writes the same stuff over and over again when he had good stuff he was writing (Desolation Jones & Fell) to his new stuff (No Hero, The Authority... I mean Black Summer). All that said, one thing that has worked for me is his recent run on Astonishing X-Men and I wondered who would have been able to follow up the decent Whedon run but Ellis has. Here is a preview of his two issue story “Ghost Boxes” after his current story arc with Simon Bianchi. My only issue is the X-name of “Subject X” in the story *yawn*.
Also check out the steampunk-like scene with the X-Men. Now this is interesting! Big kudo to CBR for the preview:

This week is a mash-up in this week’s Best Bang to include last week’s Canada Day books! From Warren Ellis pissing me off on Astonishing X-Men to Batman R.I.P to Angel making me shake my head, we have lots here. Included is last weeks Final Cri$i$ making me realize that I hate it when people try to show me how smart they are in comics, The (red) Hulk mystery continues and Mark Millar’s Fantastic Four keeps frustrating me. Since I have not gone to the island of Vancouver lately, these books come to you from Port Moody’s Hourglass Comics.
Oh and Happy Independence Day yeah bunch of colonists down south!

I was mistaken a while ago that Freak Angels was going to be an Avatar book whereas it will be a web comic (likely collected once the foaming at the mouth Ellis fans cry for it). The artwork by Paul Duffield looks amazing but the story seems like such a typical Warren Ellis book. Watch the main character KK come up with the best one liners, the smartest person amongst her peers and save the day. I hope I am very wrong! More here:

Well kids, I am going to be changing things around here for a bit. Best Bang wont be a zillion books I have read over the week anymore. Instead I am going to just mention a few books and still keep things on the bite sized info bits. No long rants unless they deserve their own posts. So lets kick off this new Best Bang for last week before the new comics come and plow their way into our heads…

Okay. I must gush about how Marvel is doing a great job with the whole Annihilation comics and storyline. I just picked up Annihilation Book 1 in trade and even though I had the singles, reading it all together was AMAZING and I look forward to the rest of the Annihilation books (3 of them I believe). From the art to the wicked story the Ann takes you on a wild ride through the space opera that is the Marvel Comics Space Universe sans The Shi’ar since they are apart of the X-Men Universe.
Some tidbits on the new Annihilation: Conquest mini-series coming oddly enough also on Nov. 7th!

The first published novel by Warren Ellis. The story of Crooked Little Vein is about a private eye, Mike McGill, who is hired to find the “Secret Constitution”. Ellis takes you through the various posts that have been on his various websites and forums all compiled in this tale. Does it work? Well…

Before I jump offline for a bit, Warren Ellis is to follow Joss Whedon on Astonishing X-Men.
What can I say? *le sigh*
