Best Bang Reborn #4

It is a crazy day but last night, after seeing Hellboy II, I got home late and read all my comics so I could get the Best Bang Reborn #4: Comics for July 9th out for today! From Final Crisis: Requiem for Martian Manhunter to Nick Fury coming out in Secret Invasion #4 over to Trinity!

Again I picked up my stuff from Hourglass Comics out in Port Moody.

Best Bang Reborn #3: July 4th & June 25th, 2008

This week is a mash-up in this week’s Best Bang to include last week’s Canada Day books! From Warren Ellis pissing me off on Astonishing X-Men to Batman R.I.P to Angel making me shake my head, we have lots here. Included is last weeks Final Cri$i$ making me realize that I hate it when people try to show me how smart they are in comics, The (red) Hulk mystery continues and Mark Millar’s Fantastic Four keeps frustrating me. Since I have not gone to the island of Vancouver lately, these books come to you from Port Moody’s Hourglass Comics.

Oh and Happy Independence Day yeah bunch of colonists down south! :P

Best Bang Reborn #2: June 18th Comics

Here I was thinking this was just going to be an average week of comics but nope — this was a great week of comics, stories and trades from Bomb Queen to Guardians of the Galaxy to Justice League of America. Yays for this week go to Guardians of the Galaxy while Angel gets a Nah from me as it built up to a disappointing wrap up issue.

As I was too sick to come out last week, I barely got out to Port Moody’s Hourglass Comics to get my stuff. I also feel bad that I missed the Comic Book Round Table for a second week in a row. Next week! Next week!

Best Bang Reborn! June 11th Comics

I think my fever has something to do with this but I have decided to bring back the Best Bang Reborn for yer Comic Buck on books that came out on June 11th. Likely no republishing on Z2H. Best Bang Reborn will now be done for fun (not scheduled and published when it is published) with little to no scheduling. This week it’s The Last Defenders, Gotham Underground and Eternals are the YAYS while Salvation Run, Secret Invasion: Who Do You Trust and Angel: After the Fall round out the NAHS.

This weeks books are from Port Moody’s own Hourglass Comics. Let’s get to it…

Last of the Best Bang!

April 28th, 2008 rjp Posted in Best Bang, Comic Books, DC Comics, Dark Horse Comics, Marvel Comics, Zeros 2 Heroes No Comments »

Last of the Best Bang!

Welcome to my Last of the Best Bang for yer Comic Buck. For over 10+ months, I have been doing the Best Bang, week after week and I only missed a few weeks. Sure the initial idea for the Between the Staples website was based on the reviews I wrote for the Happy Harbor website eons ago. Later I decided to make those reviews into its own website. It has been a great run and I would like to thank those at Zeros 2 Heroes for allowing me the Best Bang to be featured on the their blog website. I do feel that the Best Bang has lost its charm. Everyone and their dog are now blogging the bite sized reviews along with the old classic long ranting reviews. I feel it is time for a change so I plan to start putting my mind into other ideas for the website. I also will be directing my energy into other venues like my writing. I have spent much more time worrying about the Best Bang each week than doing my web work that pays for my addiction. That has to change so for now… this is the last Best Bang until it rises from the ashes in its new form.

So all that said, I am going to spotlight only a hand full of great books this week as I found that there was not much to be excited about. Batman, Might Avengers and the final wrap up for The Death of the New Gods (which obviously is being overlooked in Countdown which makes no sense). Given all the New Gods are gone and the Fifth World is close to coming together (or has), I find it fitting that their heads will be the ranking for the Last of the Best Bang. Comics from Hourglass Comics as I did not have time to make it to Elfsar Comics & Toys this week.

Least Bang for April 16th Comics

April 21st, 2008 rjp Posted in Best Bang, Comic Books, DC Comics, Image Comics, Marvel Comics No Comments »

Least Bang for Aug 16th Comics

Even a broken foot could not stop me from doing Between the Staples Best Bang… wait a sec… lets change things up a bit for this week. No Best Bang, lets do the Least Bang for your Comic Buck for the week of April 16th! This week Countdown to Final Crisis continues its horror show and Salvation Run drops to one of the worst of the week. X-Men: Divided We Stand has only one saving grace while The Dresden Files shows that you need to reading the books to know what the hell is going on, not great for a first issue. So Jimmy Olsen won’t die yet Darkseid does so their heads are the ranking from worst to best this week!

Most of this weeks comics came from Elfsar Comics & Toys where I kept the guys from working with my comic chat then I filled in the blanks at Hourglass Comics out in Port Moody.

Best Bang for April 9th

This weeks Best Bang comes crashing into yer view from a cloudy Greater Vancouver Area. Nova, The Un-Men, Echo, Criminal and the Green Lantern Corp top the books for April 9th comic book releases. I am mixing things up by ranking them alphabetical and with Warlock’s head for the best outta 5. Oh and no Skrulls this week as these books came to you from Hourglass Comics out here in Port Moody!

Best Bang for April 2nd

Best Bang for April 2nd

Welcome to another Best Bang. This time not written by a Skrull hacker but by yours truly. I am pretty bummed out that the Vancouver Canucks could not get into the playoffs for this year. So yeah, here are my Best Bang for the week of April 2nd. Given that Xander “Call Me Nick Fury” becomes Dracula’s manservant again (in the latest issue of Buffy) is why I am using his head as ranking. As always from top to bottom.

This weeks books are from Port Moody’s own Hourglass Comics.

BtS Best Bang for March 19th

BtS Best Bang for March 19th

Lets kick start this week with Between the Staples Best Bang for March 19th Comics! Not a huge week and some surprises with the likes of The Incredible Hercules, Captain Marvel and Batman and The Outsiders. As Captain Marvel is one of the first few “Secret Invasion” tie in books, I am using his head this week for ranking. Best to worse, top to bottom, this week I got my addiction from Elfsar Comics & Toys plus a healthy second does from Hourglass Comics. The secret word of the review is: Skrull(s).
