Bendis! talks SI #4 on CBR

Spoilers are included on this CBR walk-thru of Secret Invasion #4 with the writer, Brian Bendis. One bit that he had to say which made me go “hmmmm” was this:

These middle chapters are tricky things. You get what’s been called “The Second Act Dilemma.” On some levels it’s very easy to write a great opener and a great closer, but it’s hard to take the middle part and make it exciting. You see a lot of movies where they open great and taper off. You get in the middle here and there’s a lot to be done to make it as intriguing and interesting as possible. I do get the extra bonus of, “Hey cool! It’s Thor!” But it’s great to get through this and have too many ideas.

I just don’t know if THOR is the middle to any good event story, I guess it doesn’t help that I have NO such man-crush on Thor in any way, shape or form… well, maybe Frog-Thor but then that wouldn’t be much of a man-crush then would it?

Oh and I am sticking to my guns (as you can see in THIS OLD POST) that S.H.I.E.L.D. will end up being destroyed (in some sense) after Secret Invasion!

After reading the Bendis! talks Secret Invasion, I ask this poll:

Did you enjoy Secret Invasion #4?

Again I picked up my stuff from Hourglass Comics out in Port Moody.

Civil War: Another POV

Civil War: Another POV

So I got the Civil War trade paperback a while ago — for one reason — so my nephew could read it. He heard me talking about it long ago then recently when he was over, he asked to read it. Here is his point of view of Civil War (in point form) and please remember that this comes from someone who does not read a great deal of Marvel books (even though I have enough of them)…

Best Bang Reborn #3: July 4th & June 25th, 2008

This week is a mash-up in this week’s Best Bang to include last week’s Canada Day books! From Warren Ellis pissing me off on Astonishing X-Men to Batman R.I.P to Angel making me shake my head, we have lots here. Included is last weeks Final Cri$i$ making me realize that I hate it when people try to show me how smart they are in comics, The (red) Hulk mystery continues and Mark Millar’s Fantastic Four keeps frustrating me. Since I have not gone to the island of Vancouver lately, these books come to you from Port Moody’s Hourglass Comics.

Oh and Happy Independence Day yeah bunch of colonists down south! :P

So while I am still on my back pain meds this thought came to me. I stopped working on the Best Bang Reborn issue 3, I stopped working (not great but I needed to write this down) and I got thinking, writing and blogging…

Preview: Guardians of the Galaxy #3

Coming out next week will be another wicked issue of Guardians of the Galaxy #3 by Marvel Comics.

Great writing by Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning (who just signed on exclusive with Marvel), wonderful art by Paul Pelletier & Rick Magyar with colors by Nathan Fairbairn. This is a solid Marvel title!

Gah I hate Ellis! Astonishing X-Men #25 preview

Gah I hate Ellis! Astonishing X-Men #25 preview

I really do think Warren Ellis is a jerk for making me somewhat interested in his upcoming run on Astonishing X-Men! I have done so well, I wasn’t going to fall of the wagon and take a dose of his stuff. I was trying hard to keep clean after countless books and hours spent on his dope! Even this week, I managed not to take a shot of this NO HERO $1.00 book! I know he could care less about us pissants on the ‘net but still… F**k you, Ellis! F**K you hard with splintered wood!

The Astonishing X-Men #25 preview on CBR looks great (art by Simone Bianchi) and the dialog is pretty smart. GRRRR! I like how Hisako is the new “Kitty” for the X-team, I mean this was kinda obvious in Whedon’s run but even moreso now.
