Best Bang Reborn #4

It is a crazy day but last night, after seeing Hellboy II, I got home late and read all my comics so I could get the Best Bang Reborn #4: Comics for July 9th out for today! From Final Crisis: Requiem for Martian Manhunter to Nick Fury coming out in Secret Invasion #4 over to Trinity!

Again I picked up my stuff from Hourglass Comics out in Port Moody.

Final Cri$i$: Requiem for a Martian Dream

July 9th, 2008 rjp Posted in Comic Books, DC Comics, Final Crisis No Comments »

Final Crisis: Requiem. Martian Manhunter talks…

The Martian Manhunter talks… okay well maybe not J’onnn J’onzz himself (since yeah know, he’s dead and all) but Peter Tomasi talks Final Cri$i$: Requiem for a Martian Dream. Some interesting bits..

“J’onn’s death will have repercussions, some on a smaller interpersonal level, but also on a larger scale when the rage and anger as a result of his death is channeled by some of the big guns, especially Hal Jordan, into other outlets. “

FINALLY!!

J’onn is dead and buried by the people who loved and cared about him. “

Yeah well I ain’t holding my breathe that J’onn is dead.

Best Bang Reborn #3: July 4th & June 25th, 2008

This week is a mash-up in this week’s Best Bang to include last week’s Canada Day books! From Warren Ellis pissing me off on Astonishing X-Men to Batman R.I.P to Angel making me shake my head, we have lots here. Included is last weeks Final Cri$i$ making me realize that I hate it when people try to show me how smart they are in comics, The (red) Hulk mystery continues and Mark Millar’s Fantastic Four keeps frustrating me. Since I have not gone to the island of Vancouver lately, these books come to you from Port Moody’s Hourglass Comics.

Oh and Happy Independence Day yeah bunch of colonists down south! :P

BtS RANT: Is Final Crisis like The Infinity Gauntlet?

So while I am still on my back pain meds this thought came to me. I stopped working on the Best Bang Reborn issue 3, I stopped working (not great but I needed to write this down) and I got thinking, writing and blogging…

My “true” colours

June 16th, 2008 rjp Posted in Comic Books, Final Crisis, Roleplaying No Comments »

RJP’s true colours on Between the Staples.com

This one goes out to William S. and the fact that I went and procured a few books (yes one is a D&D book, the other may surprise some old cult fans) last week and this weekend to feed the roleplayer in me.

Snagged from Blog@Newsarama (I have dropped the whole Nu Newsarama rambles, if you want to see more on that check this out here) that Mightygodking.com put up these great ads, you can see more here:
http://mightygodking.com/index.php/2008/06/09/from-the-slushpile/

Also those who remember my rant about Final Cri$i$ and World War Bunk, well check this great article up on Comics Should Be Good!
http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2008/06/13/fridays-editorial-conference/

Thanks for the heads up on this by a great editor and cohort at Z2H, Andrew Foley on his Zeros 2 Heroes blog post:
http://www.zeros2heroes.com/component/option,com_myblog/show,Who-s-Responsible-.html/Itemid,110/
Great article regarding the editorial decisions (or lack thereof) regarding Final Cri$i$ and Chuck Dixon no longer working for DC.

Lastly, I will get to any solits when they come online (I am hearing they will be up tomorrow) otherwise I am dog as a sick, offline and still crying in my tea about the loss of Captain Linden and Czech out of Euro’08. PS - I did not misspell colours, I just spelled it like us Canucks do. Stow your flames.

Morrison explains Final Cri$i$ #1

June 11th, 2008 rjp Posted in Comic Books, DC Comics, Final Crisis 5 Comments »

Morrison explains Final Cri$i$ #1

I missed this on the Nu Newsarama website but Morrison talks Final Cri$i$ #1 and explains the death of Orion. Here is a snippet:

Grant Morrison:
Orion’s appearance on the docks and the Guardians’ response in Final Crisis #1 was written and drawn first. Jim Starlin then created Orion’s death scene in Death Of The New Gods to lead into the War God’s appearance in Final Crisis #1, so we refer back to Jim’s scene in Final Crisis #3. When I wrote that scene, Orion’s terminal injuries were a result of the mysterious bolt of light which Jim hit him with in Death Of The New Gods #6. By the time Countdown #1 came out, I was working on Final Crisis #4 and #5 and JG was drawing #3, so we were already well into our own story and unable to change it to match Countdown.

Forgive me but what th f**k did the the Editor do here? Remember when you were reading a comic and it had the little box telling you “This happens before Blah #X comic” from the editor? This was done in the books to avoid readers going WTF and being confused? IF — by Morrison’s account, DC / editor KNEW that this would be the case, why not tell the reader this RATHER than having us readers need to read this in an interview?! Are the editors / companies just getting lazy or what? This is about as a bad as World War Bunk when Dr. Strange had to go drink ZOM and fans were like WTF until the writers filled them in on an interview. Is that was we are to expect these days? Writers come in and fill in what happens if you too wacked out on crack to figure shit out like a Morrison script.

You can read more here on Nu Newsarama (if you can find it rather than being bored by all the crappy movie news):

RANT: Comic Continuity have Sex Appeal?

May 20th, 2008 rjp Posted in Comic Books, DC Comics, Final Crisis, Marvel Comics, Rants, Secret Invasion 1 Comment »

RANT: Comic Continuity have Sex Appeal?

So I have to ask/rant about this as it has been bottled up inside me for a while now. Does Comic Continuity have Sex Appeal? Do you prefer to read a big event in the books you pick-up OR would you prefer to ignore the event in what you are reading unless you want to read it apart of that book — then you pick-up the event book tie-in (like The Fantastic Four: Secret Invasion mini-series vs The Fantastic Four current book)?
