I did get the Umbrella Academy and I am interested in the newest series. You are right that UA is what I want from a comic book.

I am kinda in the process of creating my own comic. Given that I am bored w/ the media and busy as crap, it has been hard but I did get involved in making 2 online comics that can be seen here:

These recent months have moved me out of the floppies forever camp in favour of buying trades for the same reasons Mike said. I just can't bring myself to pick up as many random titles anymore. I've recently reassessed my spending habits and can't continue spend as much as I have on my comic book addiction. DC's dull offerings and book cancellations have alienated me to point that I find my pull list for the first time in a half decade with more Marvel on it. Dark horse and the independents may eclipse it soon. Comic books have always been my primary drug of choice but right now I'm not getting the same highs. I can't even get a good nostalgia buzz off of Batman thanks to Morrison having different drugs to adulterate his writing with. Hard, unyielding, unfathomable drugs that make his work grotesquely violent and unaccessible to new readers. Good show Mr. Morrison you killed Batman in more ways then one. Hey, remember when comic books used to be pulp fiction escapist fun? Anyone whose read something from DC in the last four years doesn't, because they can't, because DC spent those years bludgeoning them with stories stolen from HBO. I've been working on getting a really solid list of titles together that I really enjoy on a consistent basis and have also decided to stop picking up random books just to see if I like them. Until someone tells me a book is completely worth it, I'll just be sticking with my favorites. I've been disappointed far too much with any of the newer books I've tried to get into. I can’t say I’m bored of comics but I’ve come to realize recently that a lot of the stuff I was reading really isn’t worth my time.
