The Hartley Show for Aug. 28th!

Hartley talks Batman R.I.P. and I like his suggetion of Hugo Strange as the big bad! I have to disargee that Batman of Zur-En-Arrh is allowed to become The Punisher which breaks the character for me, no matter how messed up his head is. I agree with Hartley’s thoughts on Dini’s work on Detective Comics!

Re: Red Hulk. I was extremely happy to see Red Hulk beat the sh**t outta Thor (Hate Thor as much as I hate Cyclops, bring back Thor-Frog!), I could care less about the hammer bit, any time a beat down can be handed to Thor, I love it!

Oh , wait, look the Hartley show continues here with part II…

Okay so my feedback after watching the vid, X-Men #501 was blah. Cyclops sucks balls and not in a good way – EVER! Pixie does nothing for me and why does Greg Land have to always have woman in so many sexy shots, maybe it gets boring to see.

Unveiling the Awesome! Z2H Comic books launch!

Unveiling the Awesome! Z2H Comic books launch!

Alright kids. Here you go, the new Zeros 2 Heroes Comic Creation Nation launch is happening! Now you can check out the books I have been working on, Abigail’s War & Gustav Hayes, plus all the other great books that got created.

Abigail’s War was written by Jennica Harper and stunning artwork by Sandrine Replat, lettering by Ed Brisson

I had a BLAST working on Abigail’s War mainly because I had the opportunity to work with two great people – Jennica and Sandrine! I enjoyed the fact that Abigail’s War is NOT your typical super-hero wham, bam comic book. It is a lovely story of a young woman trying to come to grips with her past and her future in a time past. I asked to be the editor on this book as I felt it had that Vertigo-ish feel to the story that Jennica wrote and Sandrine made come to life on the pages. Also a big shout out to Ed Brisson and his great lettering on the book that gave it such a haunting feel!

Gustav Hayes: Lounge Singer of the Apocalypse was written by Morgan Jeske, art by Daniel Bradford and Cristian Valdes, lettering by Chris Studabaker

This was a GREAT & FUN book to work on with Morgan and Daniel. This book has the potential to become a great series and I look forward to more issues of Gustav Hayes to come in the future as I know this will be a big hit! Morgan was wonderful to work with and already let me have a sneak peek at issues #2 & 3 and all I can say is that this first issue is just scratching the surface to a great world of Gustav Hayes! Oh and remember the name Daniel Bradford! He is a diamond in the rough to become a great comic book artist!

Please take the time to go through these great books (Mind Crimes, Minus Zero, Slaughter Inc., Rip Current, The Mix, Deutschmaschine, Alma: Jumbo the Elephant, Lotus, Knightcap: November’s Song, Black Jack O’Breen, Hero High, The Brothers McElroy, Blake Undying, Supremacy: Dawn of Heroes) and all the Comic Creation Nation books on the Zeros 2 Heroes site. Tell them which books you liked and didn’t like, voice up and give some great online support to these wonderful books! No — I get no extra monies or stickers for pimping this out. I did 99% of my work for the love of comics (sorry, Crackerbob, I know I owe yah $ for using that saying) and I would appreciate the support with all these great books. Did I mention that they are FREE to view online? Yes, FREE, just go to the Zeros 2 Heroes website and enjoy!

I am very happy and proud to be apart of these books! Kudos to all my fellow editors – Josh Aiken, Alex Cieslik  & Andrew Foley — an awesome team and good fellas that I learned a great deal from! A biug shout out to Matt Toner for the opportunity and belief in everyone involed, Julian Lawrence our Zen Master and head editor, Jessica Leigh Clark for her encouragement and support and the rest of the Zeros 2 Heroes crew for all their great work!

I still remember my first meeting with Z2H and how I ended up at the wrong office, scrambling to phone Jessica on my cell, trying to get my email with her number with my laptop out on the grass just across from the Stadium Skytrain station in Vancouver. I was a mess, so nervous and worried (for what, I still don’t know) and the meeting was great. Zeros 2 Heroes is a great company with a sh**t loads of potential! A big shout out to my friend Brett for the heads up on Z2H over a year ago!

*Robert looks up the skies, smirks and says* ” Hey Dad — I finished it but I ain’t done yet! “

Comix & Stories @ VAG!

Comix & Stories!

So William S. and I made a trip to the Vancouver Art Gallery on Sunday to see the KRAZY comic book / manga exhibit before it leaves. Afterwards we popped into this great comic book convention that was going on in the VAG at the same time! It was the eighth annual Comix & Stories, a indy / small publisher comic book convention, which this year spanned 3 rooms in the Vancouver Art Gallery! I will go over the various books we got later tonight but some hi-lights were WHAT #1 by Adriel Forsyth, a hand stapled comic book that has better pacing, art and story than half that crap that is on the shelves these days, Good As Lily by Derek Kim & Jesse Hamm, a MINX book that was done locally by these two great talents, and Way Off Main by Josue Menjivar & Scott Malin — best book(s) that I picked up. We also had a chance to talk to Steve Rolston (who just did some work in last weeks House of Mystery for Vertigo) which was awesome. Again, I will go into the con in further details later tonight with the other books I picked up and people we met. I can’t speak for William but I had a blast! Then I came home to find out that Z2H had launched the Comic Creation Nation books. Awesome!

A small article from the Georgia Straight I found online about Comix & Stories:

Watchmen maybe never comes to a theatre near you?

Watchmen maybe never come to a theatre near you?

CrackerBob’s For The Love of Comics blog talked recently about the whole Fox vs Warner Bros. issues over the Watchmen. Seems Fox thinks that they have rights that WB never bought way back when man wrote on cave walls and now feel that they can stop the movie from ever being released or so they say. I am betting once the WB bucks up and lets FOX in on the action, the Watchmen will be in full glory and pimped out even more than WB is doing right now.

NOW the big news is that Watchmen movie fans (and yes, I am making a distinction) are talking about making a petition and going to Boycott FOX until this is settled. Wow. I guess some people have a great deal of time on their hands to put this much effort into this. I, for one, will NOT be boycotting FOX and any other companies unless it benefits ME in some way (and sorry a movie just doesn’t do it for me!). I am going to enjoy watching Fringe and knowing that hundreds of Watchmen movie fans are not! :P

Image Comics Solits for Nov ‘08

Image Comics Solits for Nov ‘08

I noticed that there is no Bomb Queen for November which is a little disappointing. :(

Lots of other stuff like Invincible, The Astounding Wolf-Man, Spawn (if you like that kinda stuff), Savage Dragon, Body Bags (I hope its not reprints) and new stuff like Liquid City graphic novel, New Brighton Archeological Society original graphic novel and Hector Plasm: Totentanz (ONE-SHOT).

Check them out here on CBR:

Doctor Strange is a SKRULL?!

Doctor Strange is a SKRULL?!

Huh? Wha? Well William S and I have been screaming this for a while now. This preview for New Avengers #44, that comes out next week, made me think one of two bits. One is that Doctor Strange is a Skrull, which answers SOOO many questions. ie. ZOM! Secondly, How many pages of talking can Bendis! put in an issue of the Avengers? I almost fell asleep by the time I got to the sixth page. Oh and I hope that this issue does show Marvel villains as Skrulls else they got a great cover that has NOTHING to do with the actual comic book itself!

Enjoyable as always but I would prefer Avengers: The Initiative over any Superman book or better yet the yawn that was X-Men #500. DMZ is awesome and good to see it getting pimped out, last trade didn’t work for me but I will see how the next is.  Sorry I am not more engaging but feeling very blah today.

DC Comic Solits for November ‘08

DC Comic Solits for November ‘08
Please note that this image is a touch big so may take a while to load!

So I am kinda slow on the whole posting today and this slipped thru my radar but here it is, the DC Comics solicitations for November 2008. Some hi-lights are seeing Red Robin (although bloody which made me groan), Tiny Titans having Supergirl, Batgirl with Streaky and Ace the Bat-Puppy (oh that looks great!), Justice Society of America wrapping things up with the seemingly endless Kingdom storyline (let’s hope!), WildStorm keeping pace in their messed up world with WildCATs mixing with The Authority (seemingly all the WSU characters really), a nice House of Mystery cover and finally Ambush Bug donning a Monitor suit (which may just sum up all the issues with DC of late!). A nice run down of covers and upcoming comics. Let’s hope they are bright and shiny with actual heroes in the books!
