Happy Canada Day!

I have been offline for most of this weekend other than hooking up with William S. to see the horrific WANTED movie on Sat. I wish every Canuck a Happy Canada Day!
Oh and if you want to check something out that happened this weekend — Wizard World Chicago 2008 CBR news index is here:

Headlines include Warren Ellis setting foot back on the US just to play up his image, Geoff Johns vs Bendis panel and various tidbits about Secret Inflation, Final Cri$i$…

Saw Wanted opening night and it wasn’t bad. It had very little if anything to do with Wanted mind, but it still got lots of laughs and awe at the well executed action sequences (this is done by the guy who made Nightwatch)
If I was still 11 years old and Wanted played then I would have considered it the greatest movie evvvar made. But it didn’t and I’m not and there was nothing new to see in this movie. Every single character, scene and special effect can be found in another film and found done better there. This unfortunate phenomenon is pandemic within the action movie gene. A cure for it won’t be showing up anytime soon.
So what do you do if your SFX and shoot’em up fights are old hat? You could try to at least give the audience a fresh perspective or some interesting character work… or you know maybe just not make Wanted.
but hey what do I know?
Oh and just to stir things up: Happy Thank God Were Not The US Day to you Robert, Zeek.
