BtS Best Bang for Jan 16th, 2008

Hey kids. This week for comics that came out on January 16th. I am doing my own super hero battle while fighting a bad cold. Here are the books that soothed my pains this past weekend.
Not a huge week but we got The Umbrella Academy, Angel, X-Men and CheckMate to name a few. Batmans Chef Head shows which books are worth the money and which aren’t. As always ranked from top to bottom.
Like always you can Click here read the reviews on the Z2H blog >> or you can click below to read the reviews on this site.
The Umbrella Academy #5 of 6 (Dark Horse) – As this mini-series reaches it climax, the story and art make me crave for more! How it all wraps up in the next issue is beyond me. I was sad by the death of Pogo though.

Checkmate #22 (DC) – This title is feeling more and more like a good issue of Queen and Country. I will miss Rucka when he leaves this title. Nice story about Mademoiselle Marie but the whole new White Queen was the better tale. Stunning artwork and coloring.

Angel: After the Fall #3 (IDW) – “So much easier if Spike was killing people” was a great line by Angel in the third issue of Season 6 for the Angel world. Los Angeles is either Hell or in Hell with Demon Lords ruling various parts of the city. Angel stepped up and made a splash with these Lords while still working for Wolfram & Heart. Angel fights Illyria, takes on the Lords of LA and confronts Spike. All in all a very decent issue.

New X-Men #46 (Marvel) – I am surprised that this entire Messiah Craplex could put out a decent issue but it happened. All the stories are mix mashed together to the great final issue to come. Artwork was okay.

Fell #9 (Image) – A decent issue where I did not feel Warren Ellis piss and vinager coming through the pages. I am interested to see where Ellis goes with this title given all the other crap he’s writing.

Wildstorm: Revelations #2 (Wildstorm, DC Imprint) – This title just continues with sexy woman kicking some serious butt. Nuff said. Sweet ass artwork. Will see how it goes.

New Warriors #8 (Marvel) – Two many character building / slow stories being told whereas they could be more compressed and move forward with some actual action with the entire team. I hated the fact that Rage and Justice (formerly Marvel Boy of NW fame) are discussing about leaving the Initative to join the New Warriors outside the issues of The Initative. That would be more entertaining in the pages of the Init than within the pages of this book. Top it all off the artwork throughout the book was very very poor for a Marvel comic. Too indy-like and rushed in comparison to the first few issues.

Justice League of America #17 (DC) – I was wondering why I hated this issue of JLA and then I saw that it was written by Alan Burnett and not Dwyane McDuffie which is why I couldn’t care less about ANYTHING happening between the pages. Only the McDuffie back-up story interest me.

Countdown #15 (DC) – So-so issue. I couldn’t care less about the Monitor / Monarch war but the Ray Palmer story was the best part of the entire book. Decent artwork by Pete Woods and Tom Derenick but they need more solid artwork to make this book more appealing outside the boring stories.

Wow… you actually liked New X-Men?
You MUST be sick.
Yah I know. I really must be sick… I am beginning to wonder if reading that New X-Men comic is what got me sick?
Hmm…
I couldn’t understand some parts of this article t Bang for Jan 16th, 2008 | Between The Staples, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
