World War Bunk!

World War Bunk!

R A N T alert!

World War Bunk or Why Marvel ruined my summer comics!

How did this go all wrong? Why do I feel the need to drop the title and make a financial stand to Marvel? Well lets see…

Okay so I am kinda pissed. Not only does World War Hulk have nothing to do with the rest of the world (thanks to the great work of The 50 State Initiative who believe they contained “The Hulk” from letting this become another World War - see Avengers Initiative #5 On Sale Now) but the storyline went from “That sounds appealing” to down right boring. I mean The Hulk is being built up as such as powerhouse - are we fans honestly suppose to expect that The Sentry is the one who is going to stop him!? And if so did we need 5 issues to read this!? I guess what bothers me is the Marvel marketing machine thinking I am stupid in believing in the slop it was peddling.

I am not stupid. I am an addict. There’s a difference!

World War Hulk was marketed that The Hulk going to war with the World after the fallout from the Planet Hulk storyline. Never happened. He battled on the dark side of the moon and then in New York. That, the last time I checked, is not the World - no matter what some yanks like to think.

Zor!? I mean really? We as fans needed to do research to fill-in a storyline!? I mean come on, please take the time to tell a story and not pull the Civil Bore MTV movie trailer effect and expect us to fill in the blanks. You have enough bloody cross-over comics - why not spend an issue building up to Zor. No - we get a few panels of having Wong run and hide while Doctor Strange opens a jar of Zor.

An Arena battle? The Hulk and those who did such atrocities to him? I mean What the F**k?! Lame. Yes I get the meaning, The Hulk becomes the evil tyrant that he fought on Planet Hulk but its BUNK! After building up The Hulk to this cunning and deadly force in the main series and almost all the cross-overs just to have him fall into this routine does not work for me. Its almost seems like a bad joke to see how much we the fans will buy on the marvel marketing machine. Well I wont. I’m done. I wont be picking up anymore issues. I will read them in my LCS.

All this comes back to what my friend William has told me. All Marvel event series always have an astonishing build-up, the story gets moving along to a crazy pace and then wow - a shitty climax and lame finale.

I really was hoping this would top Civil Bore, I guess I expected too much.

Oh yeah and Newsarama has teasers for issue #4 of WWH here:

  3. […] Nothing bad this week other than flipping through Hulk #110 and rolling my eyes. I have ranted enough about Hulk here: http://betweenthestaples.com/archives/895 […]
